A Defective Solution

1 03 2007

the-secret.jpgHave you ever done everything right and it still not worked? I like things to work the way they are suppose to. I like the car to start when the key is turned. I like problems that have straight forward solutions. I like solutions that don’t create new problems.

 I don’t always get what I like.

The bathroom commode was leaking. Hey, it happens. A quick look confirmed it was coming from the water supply line going into the tank. No problem, I’ve been through this before. Turn off the water. Drain the tank. Take out the old parts. Install new parts. Problem solved.

Nope… it still leaked. Tighten everything. No good.

Take it apart. Reread the instructions. Put it all back. Say a prayer. Turn on the water. See the leak. Turn off the water.

Frustration… I’d done everything right but it still didn’t work. What now? The only thing I could think to do is go back to the store and buy new parts, again. Silly, I know, but I’m not about to call a plumber for a simple leak like this.

Now picture the scene. The commode is in pieces all over the bathroom. The old parts are still on the floor in the bag the first new parts came in. The second bag with the second set of new parts will soon hold the first set of new parts. I open the second set of parts. There are parts everywhere.

So I put the second set of new parts in. Tighten everything up. Say a prayer. Turn on the water and…. no leak! Finally.

As it turns out, one of the new parts I first installed had an unseen flaw. The leak that was coming from a worn out seal was replaced by a leak from a defective part.

I see a valuable lesson here. You can’t fix a problem with a defective solution.

Many people see the problems of life and seek to solve them with defective solutions. They go from one flawed solution to another desperately hoping that “this time” it will work.

The latest flawed solution is something called “The Secret.” It’s a book and DVD that offers to solve all of life’s problems. Just learn and apply the secret and all your dreams will come true.

So what is the secret in “The Secret”? It turns out to be a repackaging of the oldest flaw of all… that humans have the potential to become like God and actually create reality by thought alone.

Notice how one’s godlike powers are celebrated in the following excerpts:

“There is no blackboard in the sky on which God has written your purpose, your mission in life…your purpose is what you say it is. Your mission is the mission you give yourself. Your life will be what you create it as, and no will stand in judgment of it, now or ever.” – Neale Donald Walsch

“This is really fun. It’s like having the Universe as your catalogue. You flip through it and say, `I’d like to have this experience and I’d like to have that product and I’d like to have a person like that.’ It is You placing your order with the Universe. It’s really that easy.” – Dr. Joe Vitale

The Secret offers a very appealing message. It’s the same one Satan used in the Garden of Eden and it is totally defective.

The real solution is absolutely flawless and no secret at all. It’s Jesus.

Great post and great information! Neale Donald Walsch has done a lot of damage with all of his bestsellers. He has a real “conversation with God” coming one day.
